Free Tickets to Open Book for SA PEN Members
The Open Book Festival will again be partnering with SA PEN on various elements of the festival and thus the organisers are offering free tickets to SA PEN members.
SA PEN will host a discussion about the recently published 50 Shades of Feminism with:
- Rachel Holmes (co-editor of 50 Shades of Feminism, Board Member of English PEN, Head of Literature and Spoken Word at London’s South Bank Centre)
- Gillian Slovo (contributor to 50 Shades of Feminism and President of English PEN)
- NoViolet Bulawayo (2009 PEN/Studzinski Literary Award finalist, winner of the 2011 Caine Prize, currently longlisted for this year’s Man Booker Award for her debut novel We Need New Names)
- Kamila Shamsie (trustee of English PEN and Free Word)
- Chaired by Margie Orford, Vice President of SA PEN.

SA PEN will also be hosting a discussion on the 10th of September which is also free to SA PEN members. Gillian Slovo (25th President of English PEN) and Niq Mhlongo will discuss the politics of literature and the literature of politics. The discussion will be chaired by Derrick Higginbotham.
